TIME MANAGEMENT (ARF/RCFE)
11/5/2008
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Course Objectives:

When it comes to time management, do you put off more today than you can ever accomplish tomorrow…have a tough time prioritizing tasks when everything is urgent...exhaust yourself by 4:00 p.m. with only a fraction of your work done…see yourself as a decision maker who never gets around to making decisions…dread the next business meeting—or worse, going back to your desk to see what voice mails and e-mails await you?

If you’re doing more and enjoying it less, it’s time to get out of the time trap and back to productivity through effective time management! This seminar gives you practical techniques for controlling time and making it a manageable resource.

PREVENTING BURNOUT (ARF/RCFE)
11/6/2008
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Course Objectives:

Outside the world of paid work, the people more prone to burnout than any other group are caregivers: people who devote themselves to the unpaid care of chronically ill or disabled family members. The stressors of caregiving — changes in the family dynamic, household disruption, financial concerns, and the sheer amount of work involved — can be overwhelming. The rewards of caregiving, if they come at all, are intangible and far off, and often there is no hope for a happy outcome

ESTABLISHING BOUNDARIES WITH CLIENT (ARF/RCFE)
11/10/2008
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Course Objectives:

A boundary is a limit or edge that defines you as an individual, separate from others. A boundary is a limit that protects you. Boundaries bring order to our lives. They empower us to determine how we’ll be treated by others. When a boundary is breached, we become vulnerable to harm. When someone crosses our limits by being thoughtless or through their actions, we call it a boundary violation.

Boundaries begin to form in infancy. We learn about our boundaries by the way we are treated as children. Then we teach others where our boundaries are by the way we let them treat us.

What the students will learn from this course:

• Boundary errors
• Boundary violations
• Time Boundaries
• Professional Boundaries
• Information Boundaries
• Maintaining positive boundaries

It will outline the 6 stages of LSCI and introduce the skills for stage one: Drain off and crisis de-escalation, and the skills for stage two: The timeline in which we discover what happened from the child's point of view; as he or she remembers it to be. We will review four types of stress and seven defense mechanisms as they relate to the children we work with. Cognitive theory will be explored. Participants will be exposed to five rigid patterns of perceiving and thinking known as cognitive traps that children get caught up in. Discussion for participants will focus on how to break the conflict cycle and understand how to recognize and manage their own counter-aggressive feelings when involved in conflict with children.

ORGANIZING PERCEPTIONS OF REALITY AND INDENTIFYING THE SOURCE OF STRESS~GROUP HOME
11/11/2008
10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Course Objective:
The objectives of this course are to help the participant develop the necessary skills to help children see the connection between their feelings and their behavior. Children who show emotional and social maturity can say ''yes'' to their feelings but ''no'' to improper behavior to express their feelings. The basic concept of supporting the feelings but not the behavior will be explored as a way to assist the participants in how to guide and teach children in crisis situations. This is a fundamental concept of LSCI, as is a commitment to promote self-awareness and behavioral change. Priorities of a comprehensive behavioral management program will be discussed in terms of teaching children pro-social behavior that enables them to function successfully. participants will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the last four stages discovering the child's central issue, assisting the child with insight into the problem, providing the child with new skills to assist with problem solving, and the transfer of training to help the child generalize the new skills into similar situations.

TEACHING CHILDREN WITH PRO-SOCIAL SKILLS DEFICITS, COMMUNICATION AND SOCIAL LEARNING ~ GROUP HOME
11/13/2008
10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Course Objectives:
The objectives of this course are to assist participants with the ability to teach new skills to children who lack successful social behavior. This is a major way for adults to help children manage and change socially inappropriate behavior. The goal is to help children belong to a peer group, have friends, achieve, be acclaimed as a person others admire, and have a close relationship with someone. Often children want the approval of adults, but they try to achieve this by overreacting, contradicting, directing adults, boasting, covering up for inadequacy or failure by disavowing interest, posturing as know-it-alls, or clowning. Adolescent children often take on negative, alienated postures toward adults and peers as defensive covers for their social and interpersonal ineptness and their failures to achieve approval or affirmation. The intent is to teach the participant how to support the child’s good intentions and desires and teach new social behaviors. The therapeutic goal is to change a child’s ineffective, unacceptable behavior by teaching substitute behavior that brings about desired reactions from others.
